A bag of football strips headed across the ocean to Papua New Guinea last night.
Maycenvale United AFC received a new strip for the juniors this season so decided to hand their surplus uniform to those who needed it.
Club secretary Lynne Ebbett said they have had a couple of players from Papua New Guinea play for their senior team for a number of years so wanted to give something back.
"I asked them whether anyone over there would use it and they said definitely the kids in the villages."
"We didn't have any use for them as we have new uniforms so it's good they can do something with it."
Papua New Guinea player Tim Gahare, who comes out to New Zealand to do seasonal work, will be taking the uniforms back to the locals.
He intends to use his time at home to promote soccer and help encourage the children to get involved in the game.
Mrs Ebbett said they were thrilled they had the opportunity to help Mr Gahare and make a difference to the kids in Papua New Guinea.
"It is wonderful to know they will be used by children less fortunate."
Next year Mr Gahare will take another three of four uniforms back over as well as other gear including footballs and corner flags.
Maycenvale United AFC received sponsorship from Mitre 10 Mega for their new Junior strips for the 2017 season.
