Three Hastings Intermediate School students who had their bikes stolen on Monday now have brand new ones thanks to Gull Omahu Night 'n Day owners Perry and Karen Laurent.
The Laurents read about the bikes being stolen in Hawke's Bay Today and were particularly touched by the story of Jacob Hansen who had saved up for three years to buy his bike.
"We saw this cute kid and thought we haven't done anything like this for a while, let's get him a new bike," Mrs Laurent said.
"And then we read that two others had been stolen. We thought we can't do one without the others so we got them all new bikes."
They purchased the bikes at Avanti in Hastings and gave them to the boys yesterday afternoon.
The boys had not been warned about what was happening and were surprised to find out that the new Black Thunder model mountain bikes were theirs to keep.
They promised the Laurents that they would take extra care to ensure they were locked and kept secure while they were at school.
