A multiple sclerosis fundraiser which started with questions over its potential to succeed will be held for a fifth time in Napier this week.
Multiple Steps for Multiple Sclerosis was first held on the network of stairs of Bluff Hill in 2012, when the 124 entrants almost doubled the anticipated turnout, and helped organisers to an equally unexpected success in winning a Bupa Community Workers Award for Best Fundraising Activity of the Year.
This year's event will be held on Wednesday, with three options, with a 10km "Gut Buster" starting at 5.45pm and a 5km event starting at 6pm both going up to the Bluff Hill Lookout and back, and for the les-inclined a 5km run-walk on the flat of the Rotary Pathway.
It's $10 per person or $30 for a family with up to three children, with all proceeds staying in Hawke's Bay and going to the Hawke's Bay Multiple Sclerosis Society.
There will be spot prizes, and society Hawke's Bay office manager Nicola Brown says registration can be done on-line before Wednesday at www.hawkesbaymultiplesclerosis.org or on the night before the event starts, although organisers prefer it to be done in advance.
