A motorcyclist has died after a collision with a car on SH5 near Eskdale this morning.

Police reported that that the motorcyclist was part of a group of friends and family travelling north from Napier.

The driver of the motor vehicle involved is a tourist visiting on a 12 month working visa.

The Hawke's Bay Serious Crash team was called to investigate.


Diversions were in place at Hill and Seafield Roads Bay view before the road was open again shortly after 2.30pm.

Police are speaking to the occupants of the vehicle that was involved, and a number of other witnesses.

Senior sergeant David Sutherland said the Hawke's Bay Serious Crash unit was on scene .

"Police would like to thank the travelling public for their patience and ask them drive carefully," he said.
