Dannevirke junior cricket is strong thanks equally to a dedicated bunch of coaches and a pool of talented enthusiastic players. The Dannevirke Sports Club has excellent organisation which has provided intensive coaching for these players.
Gordon Kuggeleijn ran his training camp in January and two teams travelled to the Riverbend Camp in Hastings for a week of cricket with teams from all over New Zealand. The Year 7-8 team won five of its six games.
The upshot of these clinics and all the coaching in the nets down at the domain is that five local lads have been selected to play for Manawatu.
Marcus Ingram and Lochie McNair are in the Under-13 team, which has played a tournament in Wanganui. They played three games, losing the final.
Thomas Harris, Lachlan Christian and Jack Alomes have played one game for the Under-12s against Taranaki which the team lost.
At this stage, most players are all-rounders which means they get to bowl and bat which they seem to do pretty well.
