A team of Hawke's Bay kids with their sights set on the International Children's Games showed off their new uniforms to sponsors last night.
The Napier Port Children's Games team and their sponsors were brimming with excitement at MTG Century Theatre.
The 18-strong team of BMX riders, swimmers, footballers and sailors are counting down to the day they leave for the International Children's Games at Lake Macquarie, New South Wales next month.
The team, supported by the Napier City Council, will represent New Zealand in swimming, BMX, sailing and football for the first time at the games in its 48-year history.
Council chief executive and former Lake Macquarie city councillor Wayne Jack said last night's function was the last time all the teams would be together before they set off on December 6, and a chance to acknowledge sponsors.
"It's a great opportunity for them, they'll get to experience an international sporting event and mix with kids of all different nationalities."
The team is supported by Napier City Council, Napier Port, Downer Group and the Jarrod Cunningham Youth Sports Trust.
