A police chase in Napier came to a dramatic end last night with three arrests and a trail of destruction left behind.
Police Sergeant Glen Burrell said three males in a stolen white ute were arrested after the pursuit, which began at 8.30pm and lasted about 30 minutes.
The chase had gone through Hastings and ended in Nikau St, Taradale.
Student Vinal Singh, 22, said he was on his way to study with friends in Gloucester St, Napier, when he saw a car coming toward him on the wrong side of the road with about six police cars close behind. Mr Singh had to swerve off the road to avoid the car.
"He was coming straight towards me. I just missed him. I crashed into a fence. It was the only thing I could do."
The pursuit ended about 9pm in Nikau St, the ute driving through a 1.5-metre-tall cinder block wall, clipping the corner of a house, and hitting a resident's car.
