A record number of artworks have been entered in a national art competition for the intellectually disabled, and can be viewed in Napier next week.
IHC national manager communications Gina Rogers said the IHC Art Awards were open to all New Zealanders with an intellectual disability, aged 13 or above.
The artworks covered sculptures, installations, paintings and drawings.
Ms Rogers said 600 people had entered this years' awards - up 100 on last year.
Napier would host the first of three regional exhibitions as part of the awards, with the other exhibitions hosted by Hamilton and Dunedin.
The Napier exhibition would be judged by New Zealand writer, television presenter and actor, Oscar Kightley, MNZM.
Mr Kightley will choose 10 finalists out of 186 artworks that have arrived in the region from across the lower North Island.
Ms Rogers said the number of artworks arriving in the region had almost doubled from last year.
The top three prize-winners would be announced at the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington, in August. The finalists' work would be auctioned on the night, with the proceeds going to the artists.
IHC is New Zealand's largest provider of services to people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
The Napier exhibition can be viewed at Photographers' Gallery Hawke's Bay, Napier, from July 9 to 17.
