Hawke's Bay's good weather looks set to continue throughout the weekend, after a high of 24C yesterday kept tens of thousands of people attending the 150th Hawke's Bay Show in good spirits.
With what organisers believe was one of the biggest crowds they had seen on a show day, the anniversary event came to a close yesterday but not before attractions such as the Grand Parade, the strongest man competition and the national fencing competition took place.
Showgrounds general manager Brent Linn said he did not want to speculate on numbers but expected it to be one of the biggest Fridays the society had experienced, and it was "without a doubt" one of the best shows he had attended.
This year's show was a milestone for the long-standing annual event, being a celebration of its 150th anniversary.
Meanwhile, wild winds in Wellington disrupted the holiday weekend travel plans of hundreds of people heading for or leaving Hawke's Bay yesterday.
It was the second day in a row strong winds gusting to more than 100km/h had caused flight delays or cancellations through the capital's airport.
Four Hawke's Bay-bound flights from Wellington - at 12.25pm, 1.35pm, 3.30pm and 4pm - were cancelled, along with four outgoing flights at 11.20am, 12.45pm, 3.50pm and 4pm.
There is the chance of a light shower or two tomorrow and early Monday, as a southwesterly change rolls through. Temperatures in the low 20Cs are on the cards for Hawke's Bay until Tuesday.
