It's quite clear this bonny blue-eyed little beauty captivated Hawke's Bay Today readers. Charming 7-month-old Ella Higgins-Ross was voted the Bay's Best Baby in a competition running in conjunction with the Hawke's Bay Baby & Child Show at the Pettigrew Arena last month.

Entrants had their photo taken at the show by Hawke's Bay Today award-winning photographer Paul Taylor. The public were invited to cast their vote for Hawke's Bay "cutest bub" when their photos were published in the paper earlier this month.

Parents, Andrew Ross and Emily Higgins, said their daughter took her modelling cues from her famous aunt, New Zealand's Top Model finalist Ruby Higgins. The couple from Parkvale in Hastings say it was Ella's first competition, but after her success, she may be entered in more. Emily thinks what caught our readers' eyes was Ella's charismatic personality. "She's such a friendly happy baby, cheeky and determined," she said.

Hawke's Bay Today circulation manager Robert Cimino said voting was intense with more than 240 great entries received.

"It was a nice way to finish the Hawke's Bay Baby & Child Show and we hope to run it again next year," he said.

Ella will receive a prize package of $200 Pumpkin Patch vouchers, a 25cm x 38cm print of the winning photo and a 12-month subscription to Hawke's Bay Today. All voters will go in a draw to win a $500 voucher from Cake Stuff. All baby photos published are available for sale. To order phone Hawke's Bay Today on (06) 873 0800.
