An exclusive flight for eight people in a private jet and two bottles of fine wine accounted for more than a fifth of the $55,000 raised for the Christchurch earthquake appeal at a joint Hawke's Bay wineries dinner and auction.
Last weekend's result at the Terroir restaurant, Craggy Range, thrilled its viticultural director and the MC, Steve Smith. "I am extremely pleased that we will be able to contribute something to the people of Christchurch who are in so much need of help right now."
The dinner was jointly hosted by Craggy Range, Black Barn Winery, Elephant Hill Winery and Vidal Estate, with staff donating their time.
In the wine auction, highlights included a rare magnum of 1998 Joseph Soler which made $875, a signed 3-litre bottle of Frizzell ($850) and 22 bottles of Bay red wines ($4500).
A flight for eight aboard an executive private jet raised $10,000, a Rod Drury business acceleration course went for $4500, a night at Cape Kidnappers Lodge $2200 and a print by photographer Richard Brimer drew a $3500 bid.
