A plan to spend $5.7 million upgrading public pools in Hastings has been released for feedback.
It follows a review of the district's pools last year, which found significant work was needed to bring the aging facilities up to standard.
The plan also includes more work on whether a new 25m pool is needed in the district.
Hastings District Council owns six pools: Waterworld in Flaxmere, Clive Memorial Pool, Havelock North Village Pool, Frimley Aquatic Centre, Splash Planet and the Windsor Park pool, which is leased to Karamu High School.
Work needed on four of the pools, Frimley, Waterworld, Clive and Havelock North, is estimated at a total cost of $5.7m.
The pools are owned by the council and operated by trusts, which receive an annual operating grant.
Splash Planet has a separate development strategy and the Windsor Park pool will be decommissioned once no longer needed by Karamu High School.
The plan also proposes a new 25m pool for the district, which will be considered further when work to revitalise existing pools is complete.
An approximate figure of $14m has been given for a new pool, which could include a 10-lane, 25m pool, learn-to-swim pools, hydrotherapy pool, zero-depth play pool, gym and café.
Council policy and strategy committee chairman Ru Collin said the strategy needed feedback from stakeholders and the wider community.
"We want to hear what swimmers, aquatic-sports players, parents and ratepayers have to say about this," Mr Collin said.
The consultation period ends in February. Details are available on the council's website, www.hastingsdc.govt.nz
