Cat fanciers come from every part of society, say American show judges Rachel Anger and Ellyn Honey.
The pair flew in from the US yesterday to judge at the New Zealand National Cat Show at the Pettigrew Green Arena tomorrow.
``We have everyone from nuclear physicists to janitors and this is one area that brings them all together,'' Ms Anger said.
The judges themselves come from varied backgrounds with Ms Anger working for a law firm and Mrs Honey retired from working at a defence force agency.
They were invited to judge New Zealand's largest cat show this weekend which will feature up to 500 top pedigree cats and kittens.
``Cats are eliminated at each level until one is crowned best in show,'' Mrs Honey said.
``That means huge bragging rights for the winner.''
``It's serious business, I've been on the other side of the table and to have fellow judges approve of your cat is a real thrill,'' Ms Anger said.
Mostly though, they said fanciers just love their feline friends.
