Investment manager Gareth Morgan admits he and his wife Joanne have a fetish and they love doing it.
"We'll just keep going until we can't get a leg over anymore," Morgan says.
Morgan, who has been married for 30 years, reckons the best reason for doing it with your wife is "you get to go for longer".
The former Reserve Bank economist is of course talking about motorcycling jaunts through far-flung places of the world.
"I've done a couple through the Himalayas also down in the Andes, Bolivia and Peru, another in India and Nepal, and also the Australian outback," Morgan says.
His most recent motorcycle adventure was with his wife and four other riders travelling 19,000km from Europe across the Balkans, Central Asia and China following the Silk Road travelled by another famous journeyman, Marco Polo.
He says the difference to riding motorbikes on New Zealand roads is considerable.
"In other countries you don't have road markings. You can see man-holes without man-hole covers. There are virtually no rules," Morgan says.
Apart from clocking up the miles, Morgan is no slouch at clocking up figures.
Morgan holds a doctorate of economics and is the founder of Infometrics, considered by many to be the most influential forecasting company in the country.
Currently the high-profile economist is doing a nationwide series of seminars discussing his travel tales with a smattering of investment advice relevant to the issues facing New Zealanders with an ageing population.
"My main theme in these public speeches is essentially the ageing of the population and making sure you don't lose out when those monthly cheques stop coming," Morgan says.
"You never have all your eggs in the one basket and New Zealanders are pretty heavily involved in property at the moment."
Morgan will be giving a seminar at Napier Municipal Theatre at 5.30pm on Thursday.
Proceeds from the $15 entry fee will be donated to Hawke's Bay Today's cars for Cranford Appeal.
