The newly crowned Hawke's Bay Exporter of the Year is set to share the inspiring story of how his little Whakatu business has garnered global appeal at free business event series The Biz, hosted by Yellow, in Napier next week.
Launched in 1985, David Trubridge's furniture, lighting and jewellery design business has grown from a boutique operation to employing 22 staff and exporting more than 8 000 pieces internationally.
"Businesses working in overseas markets must be patient, tenacious and consistent, as others are always waiting in the wings to take your place," Mr Trubridge said.
He will be joined by Marcus Wild, an ex-professional showjumper who went behind the sports camera lens following a near-fatal horse riding accident.
Mr Wild now travels the world as the general manager of 90 Seconds, a leading video production agency developing world- class video strategies for global brands including Xero.
Mr Wild will share secrets gained from many years in the New Zealand TV, film and online video industry and demonstrate the benefits of a video strategy and creating engaging content.
The final speaker on The Biz Napier panel is Andy Quayle, general manager of sales, marketing and channels for NZCU Baywide, a company helping Kiwis achieve their financial goals.
Mr Quayle spearheaded NZCU Baywide's push into the digital world and as a result has seen a 25 per cent growth in personal lending, with the company's online presence now bringing in 20 per cent of its total business.
"Digital can sound and look scary, but this is just a perceived barrier. Businesses have to take the leap and try it. The majority of your customers are using digital devices for everyday activities. If you are not present, you risk not being relevant," Mr Quayle said.
Yellow chief executive Michael Boersen said The Biz was an important networking event and was not to be missed.
"The connections we make in business are so valuable, so it's important for Yellow to help build those local connections, especially in a country of small businesses.
"I encourage businesses in the region to attend The Biz as you will come away with helpful tips, advice and new local support networks."
