Two nose to tail crashes in the space of just four days in the same location on SH3 has prompted Waipā District Council to look at working with NZTA to find a solution to the problem.

The crashes occurred at the intersection of Lyon and Leslie Sts at the northern entrance to Kihikihi.

In both cases a stationary vehicle waiting to turn right into Leslie St has been hit in the rear by a southbound car.

I came across Friday night's crash, which happened during a downpour just after dark, and then witnessed the second crash in clear conditions on Monday morning.

A discussion with locals over the weekend suggested it was a 'too regular' occurrence.

Locals believe speed of vehicles entering the village, the number of nearby intersections, restricted visibility and distractions all played a part in the number of incidents.

Council said the location was on its radar and the two recent crashes gave it more reason to work on options.

It appeared no one was seriously injured in either crash.
