Sanjay Thakker (21), Anjali Thakker (19), and Tara Tissink (28) have all been selected to represent New Zealand for inline hockey. They will be travelling to USA in July to compete in the world championships.
Tara Tissink and Anjali Thakker are members of the New Zealand Senior Women Inline Hockey Team and will be competing in the FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships, in Anaheim, California, in July. Known teams in their pool at this stage are Canada, Namibia, China and Australia. In the past, New Zealand has mostly beaten Australia at the Oceania Inline Hockey Championships in the women's grade. The tally is 25 games in a row.
Sanjay Thakker is in the New Zealand U21 Mens Inline Hockey Team which will be competing in the FIRS International World Youth Cup, also in Anaheim in July.
Anjali and Tara have represented New Zealand before, whereas for Sanjay it will be his first time representing New Zealand for inline hockey.
All three play for the Hamilton Devils Inline Hockey Club where Sanjay is in the premier men's team and Anjali and Tara are in the women's team.
They have all been training hard for their trip, attending various training camps and tournaments in New Plymouth and Hamilton.
Sanjay and Anjali attend the University of Waikato and are both in their third year of study -Sanjay for a Bachelor of Laws and Anjali, a Bachelor of Science. Anjali is a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar.
They have been fundraising for their trip to USA. They ran a movie night at Hoyts last night.
