Police are treating the death of a man outside 51 North St at about 7pm Sunday as homicide.
Officers were called to the scene when the body of a man was found outside the address and the scene was quickly cordoned off and scene guards put in place.
They say an altercation took place about 6.45pm on Sunday and it appears that subsequent to this, a man has died.
Police have been in touch with the man's family and are offering them support.
As at yesterday afternoon when this edition went to print police did not have formal identification of the victim.
Forensic teams were at the scene all Monday - including detectives, ESR and photography - and they are likely to continue working at the scene for a number of days.
It is anticipated a post-mortem will take place in Auckland today and that will assist police to determine the cause of death.
