Hamilton student Izzie Reid has been selected for the New Zealand Secondary Students' Choir - and she is only just about to start Year 9 at school.
It is the first time in a decade that a student at such an early level has been selected for the choir.
Normally, members are not accepted until Year 11, but Izzie is a talented young singer with a mature voice.
"I always used to sing around the house and my parents used to listen to me, and they asked me if I wanted to do singing lessons so I could actually sing properly, and get into choirs and sing at solo events," said Izzie.
She joined the St Peter's Cathedral Choir for children when she was six, which led to her finding out that she really wanted to continue with singing.
"I started doing singing exams, I went well and I'm still doing them now," she said.
Izzie won New Zealand ARIA First Place certificates during the NZ ARIA Competition in 2016.
Studying grade 5 in both musical practical and theory with her piano teacher, Izzie said she wanted to get into the New Zealand Youth Choir after high school, to which the Secondary Students' Choir is a natural prelude.
She sings all the time, she said, in order to keep her voice warm, but mostly does 30 minutes of concentrated practice each day.
Izzie will be in the Secondary Students' Choir for two years, part of a contingent of 60 students composed of 30 boys and 30 girls.
A total of 250 auditioned.
Prestigious as it is, that's not the only choir that Izzie will be singing in this year.
"I'm going to Dio this year and I've gotten into the choir there, and I'm in the opera production as well - Oliver."
Izzie also said she loved sport, particularly netball, so she will have a lot to fit in during 2017.
She will be performing in the Secondary Students' Choir in conjunction with the New Zealand Youth Choir in Auckland this year, singing at an Anzac service, and having plenty of other opportunities to perform while seeing a bit of the country in the process.
An overseas trip would even be included, Izzie said, with the choir having gone to Canada last year.
