Employers who have little understanding of disabilities are being asked to take just three hours to attend 'Just One Day'.
The course is free and will provide information about disability types and the barriers people face.
Martyn Parkes, Enrich + executive leader employment, said people with disabilities are often hard working and just want to be able to get out into the work force.
"People with a disability are often more motivated and more committed and they just want to be given an opportunity. That is what employers want at the end of the day, someone who is motivated and hard working."
He said it is about breaking down the barriers between people with disabilities and employers and is an opportunity for employers to learn about the people they are missing out on.
Powerful messages will be shared from business people who have employed disabled people.
Selwyn Cook, who runs a number of Z stations around the Waikato, is one of these business people and his attitude is simple: "We don't employ disabled people. We just employ good people and if they've got a physical disability, so what?"
He's hugely proud of his staff, including Biju Thomas who was recently recognised as the leading Z customer service representative in the region, despite losing the use of his right hand and arm in a motorcycle accident.
Biju was acknowledged for the pride and passion he gives to his role.
Mr Parkes said the event aims to leave employers better informed about disability, more aware of what support is available to help them take on a disabled worker, and truly impressed at the positive benefits that can come from having a diverse workforce that reflects the local community.
The event will give attendees the opportunity to 'experience' the challenges faced by people with a disability, have a bit of fun, and at the same time start to recognise how easily these barriers can be overcome.
"When we look for employees we look for someone who will be great for the job, taking on someone who can do that job and we can see beyond the disability," Mr Parkes said.
He said the event is not about asking employers to put their hands up to hire someone, rather it is about spreading the word and better informing people for a better community over all.
'Just One Day' will be held in the Brooklyn room at the Claudelands Events Centre in Hamilton from 3.30-6.30pm on November 26.
