Mo Salah, named as one of Time Magazine's most influential people in the world, has called for better treatment of women in his culture.
The Liverpool forward, whose goalscoring feats are only part of his phenomenal popularity, has demanded change amongst Muslims and in the Middle East.
The 26-year-old, a practising Muslim, is one of Time Magazine's six cover choices for its list of the world's 100 most influential people.
Egyptian Salah said: "We need to change the way we treat women in our culture. That has to be, it's not optional.
"I support the woman more than I did before, because I fell like she deserves more than what they give her now at the moment."
The list includes musicians Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, US President Donald Trump, Pakistan Prime Minister and former cricketer Imran Khan, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and former US first lady Michelle Obama.
Salah is named in the titans category - the others are pioneers, artists, leaders and icons.
There is a strong American leaning in the six people chosen for the Time covers. The others are musician Taylor Swift, actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, actor Sandra Oh, news presenter Gayle King, and politician Nancy Pelosi.
South Africa's 800m Olympic champion Caster Semenya and Japan's tennis world number one Naomi Osaka are also on the list as are NBA legend LeBron James, Masters champion Tiger Woods and American footballer Alex Morgan.
