Pink's heartfelt message to her 6-year-old daughter ended up being one of the highlights of this year's VMAs.
The singer took the stage to thank everyone for the award but also used the opportunity to address her 6-year-old daughter Willow, who was in the audience.
Despite her young age, Willow has told her rock star mother that she thinks she is "the ugliest girl" she knows.
"Recently I was driving my daughter to school and she said to me 'Mama, I'm the ugliest girl I know,'" Pink said in her speech, as her daughter watched her from the audience.
When her mum asked why she thought that, she answered that she looked "like a boy".
She explained she went home that day and created a PowerPoint presentation of famous people who are either androgynous or gender fluid. Her point was to show little Willow that being "a girl who looks like a boy" or someone who doesn't match the stereotype of her assigned gender put her in some fine company, with the likes of David Bowie, Prince or Annie Lennox.
"OK! So, baby girl: we don't change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty," the singer continued, looked straight at her daughter.
"And you, my darling girl, are beautiful, and I love you."
The singer later posted a photo of herself with little Willow and her husband, all wearing matching suits.
The singer made the speech while accepting the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award".
The speech, a bold message of self-empowerment, quickly went viral on the internet.
