A New Zealand woman charged in connection with the death of her diabetic son has been denied bail in a United States court.
Sirelli "Cheryl" Pothan Brewer, aged 38, was ordered to be held without bond when she appeared on an arson charge in Spotsylvania General District Court, Virginia, on Saturday.
Brewer has already been charged with child neglect in connection with the death of her 17-year-old son, Joshua Pothan, in April.
Brewer is charged with failing to provide insulin to her diabetic son, who allegedly had a blood-sugar level 10 times higher than normal when he died.
She is also accused of burning down her home in Spotsylvania the day after her son's death.
A preliminary hearing on the child neglect charge was held last Thursday, while a preliminary hearing on the arson charge is set for June 12.
