A depositions hearing has begun in the Manukau District Court into a charge that Auckland doctor, Chris Simpson, murdered his terminally ill mother in October.
The Crown alleges that Dr Simpson strangled Florence Marjorie Simpson, aged 82, who was suffering advanced bowel cancer and had days, at best weeks, to live.
Twelve witnesses will be called and the hearing in front of two Justices of the Peace is expected to take three days.
