New Zealand's first international Fashion and Culture Week has been cancelled after its major backer, Trade New Zealand, pulled out when its organisers failed to meet key criteria.
Promoter Jennifer Souness, of Creative Business Development, would not comment last night but industry sources said a last ditch effort to raise the $300,000 needed to resurrect the show had failed.
Trade New Zealand chief Fran Wilde said it said no when the proposal from the promoter of the event, to begin on November 17, was finally received earlier this week.
Ms Wilde said the proposal failed to meet criteria that had been carefully explained at earlier meetings.
The Wellington event was to have showcased the best of New Zealand's creative industries before international journalists, buyers and industry representatives.
