Toni Street has responded to an online opinion piece about Toni's seat - and the Seven Sharp host says thanks for the concern but she's fine where she is.
It was alleged that her seating to the right of the current affairs show's nightly desk was an act of "everyday sexism" and TVNZ should treat the seasoned presenter with more respect.
The author of the piece said it was particularly distasteful for Street to be kept out of the left-hand seat - the "unofficial captain's chair" - while the less experienced Jack Tame filled in for Mike Hosking.
Ahead of tonight's show, Street tweeted about #chairgate and teased at a response.
Street, who also co-hosts the morning show on The Hits radio station, said actually she sat to the right because she liked that seat better.
"Here's the deal - this is the seat I actually chose, three and a half years back when we launched this show, I told Mike 'I like this side better'. And he, with his typical disinterested gaze, replied 'I don't care where you sit'."
Street added that she had stayed to the right of eight different Seven Sharp co-hosts - including five women.
"Jack you're actually the third other male to disrespect me," she joked.
"I've also had five women disrespect me sitting in that chair, shame on you Pippa Wetzell, Heather Du Plessis-Allan, Nadine Chalmers- Ross, Carolyn Robinson and Erin Conroy."
Street ended on a serious note, saying while she was "all for" gender equality, "next time let's make it about something that actually matters".
"If I did feel disrespected I'd be marching upstairs and I'd be rattling some cages."
Tame, who was again filling in for Hosking tonight, added there was no great conspiracy at TVNZ and besides, Street was the clear star of the show.
"I don't think you give Toni the credit she deserves."
