Whoopi Goldberg has announced she is producing a television series about transgender fashion models.
The TV host and actress is the executive producer of the show Strut, which she said will play an important role in ending stereotypes, Deadline reports.
"Transgender is still a hot-button word that gets people hysterical," the Sister Act star said in a statement obtained by Deadline.
The series is based on Slay Model Management which proudly bills itself as the world's first exclusively transgender modelling agency.
It follows the Los Angeles-based models who are working to change the industry and the stereotypes in the world around them.
"You may even be surprised to discover that you have been seeing and interacting with transgender men and women in ways you didn't even realise," Goldberg said.
She added the show is an "opportunity to spend time with real people who are struggling with the same challenges we all face as we make our way through the world."
The series is expected to premiere later this year.
