They're about to make their first appearance in New Zealand, so it's only fair that Cold War Kids stick around for a second show.

The acclaimed Long Beach foursome, known for their debut album Robbers & Cowards, are set to perform at Auckland City Limits on March 19.

But they've added a sideshow to their festival appearance with a free show the night before at The Bedford in Christchurch, thanks to iHeartRadio and 2Degrees.

Despite a mid-career slump, Cold War Kids have been on the comeback trail thanks to their 2014 album, Hold My Home, and their undeniably catchy folk-stomp hit single, First.

Singer Nathan Willet says New Zealand will see the band "in great form".

"We've been playing live a ton and the new record is fun to perform." he told TimeOut.

"We've been to Australia seven times, I think, but this is our first time in New Zealand ... we're going to have a good time."
