It's been seven years since they were last on screen together, but The X-Files reboot is closer than ever, with new footage debuting today.

America's Fox network, which screens the show, has released a trailer encouraging fans to watch an episode a day before the January premiere of the new, six-part mini-series.

At the end of the promo, Mulder and Scully - played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson - are seen back in action.

"I believe that what we're looking for is in The X-Files, and I'm more certain than ever that the truth is in there," says Mulder.

"I've heard the truth, Mulder, now what I what I want is the answers," Scully replies, as the two appear, guns drawn, in a room together.

There is no New Zealand release date yet for the new episodes. Rhys Darby confirmed yesterday he will have a role in the revival.
