The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge proved that celebrities doing silly things on social media can raise awareness, and money, for serious issues.

Now Hugh Jackman has joined the latest viral challenge, Feeling Nuts, grabbing his manhood to help bring attention to testicular cancer.

On Wednesday, the hunky Wolverine star posted a snap of himself with British reality TV personality Nigel Barker and two friends at a gym with their right hands protecting their private parts and their left hands punched into the air.

He captioned the snap: "I accept @sambranson. #feelingnuts raising awareness for testicular cancer. Nominating @ActuallyNPH @michaelstrahan @rickygervais."

The 45-year-old also posted a slow motion video clip of him jumping on to a high bench while still holding on to the crown jewels, with the message: "#feelingnuts in slomo! Raising awareness for testicular cancer. #youknowwhoyouare"

British comedian Ricky immediately rose to Hugh's challenge, posting a pic of him holding his privates and flashing the one-fingered salute.

"I accept the @RealHughJackman #feelingnuts challenge for testicular cancer. I nominate @WilliamShatner," he wrote.

Neil Patrick Harris, Live! With Kelly And Michael co-host Michael Strahan and the Star Trek star have yet to respond.

But others who have joined in include celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, boy band Five Seconds Of Summer and Steel Panthers.

The new campaign is the brainchild of Check One Two, set up in the UK by two sets of brothers, Simon and Andrew Salter plus Simon and Phil Tucker, according to the UK's C4 TV channel.

They launched the movement after hearing about the death of a 19-year-old, due to embarrassment and lack of knowledge about the condition.

Through Check One Two they aim to empower men worldwide with the positive message about regularly checking their testicles.

This month C4 is airing a one-off TV comedy show to help spread awareness of this treatable disease, featuring "talent from the world of music, comedy, TV, film and sport as part of a 90-minute prime-time never-before-seen live entertainment show, empowering the nation to feel nuts and talk bollocks!"
