British glam rockers The Darkness are set to pair with veteran American rocker Joan Jett and her band The Blackhearts for an Auckland show in April.

The Darkness rocketed to world stardom in 2003 with hits including I Believe In a Thing Called Love and Get Your Hands Off My Woman and nabbed three Brit Awards in 2004 before splitting in 2006.

In 2011 they regrouped and in 2012 they released their third LP Hot Cakes.

In the same year they sold out shows for their Australia tour within the hour.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts are best known for their 1981 hit I Love Rock 'n' Roll, and Jett was formerly a member of all-female rock group The Runaways whose short-lived career was the subject of a film featuring Twilight star Kristen Stewart as Jett.

The bands will play together at the Logan Campbell Centre on Tuesday April 9. Tickets go on sale via ticketmaster on Thursday February 7.
