One family held an emergency family meeting. Another wanted MIA banned from all American television stations for two years.
And a third asked America's government complaints agency the Federal Communications Commission to "fine her enough money to make her homeless".
Complaints about MIA flipping the bird during the Super Bowl have been released, and viewers who saw the rude gesture were not impressed.
The Paper Planes singer gave the crowd the finger while performing with Madonna and Nicki Minaj during the Super Bowl's hyped halftime show.
American football fans wrote angry letters to the FCC to complain about MIA's gesture.
"This wannabe star that none of us have heard of has the gall to come to our home and enjoy the celebrity of being a star at Super Bowl, just to flip the bird. What a disrespectful wench," said one complaint.
"Shame on NBC for putting a 50+ year old woman named Madonna in such a provocative and obscene Illuminati halftime show complete with ancient Egyptian symbolism and a Baphomet head dress," said another.
A third said: "My 10-year-old boy looked over at me and said, 'Did you just see and hear what she said on national television?'"
One family said they had to hold an emergency meeting to "contain the backlash of the lude image".
Madonna has said she wasn't impressed with the gesture, and MIA has since apologised.
