Rosamund Pike has a new lover but doubts she will ever get married after her engagement was broken off one month before her wedding in 2008.
The 32-year-old split from Pride and Prejudice director Joe Wright after dating for three years and although it was "pretty painful" at the time, Rosamund believes the experience has freed her from following a conventional path.
She said: "When you're about to get married, and then you're not, it's all a big shock. You think, well, okay, so I'm never going to lead a totally conventional life now. It sort of cleans the slate and now I can be exactly who I am.
"Everyone gives you leeway too, because they can see that you've had something pretty painful go on.
"And in that, I find a tremendous freedom. I know I can be married or not married, live with someone or apart. Even my grandmother is no longer expecting me to go down a conventional route, which is nice."
Rosamund, 32, has found love again and although she refuses to name him, she is "enjoying not being married".
In an interview with InStyle magazine, she said: "I won't disclose. Once you get burnt, you're never going to discuss things like that again. Let's just say I'm really enjoying not being married at the moment."
Although she is unsure if she will get married, Rosamund is adamant that she wants kids, especially since she was an only child.
She explained: "As an only child, you've never known anything else. But I definitely know that I would like my child to have brothers or sisters. But I haven't got a child yet, not yet obviously."
