Big Day Out organisers have been slammed by music fans accusing the festival of drawing out last night's "boring" announcement for a lengthy two hours.
Online commentators were also outraged that, despite staying up until 1am to hear which bands would be performing at the January 20 festival in Auckland, headlining acts Soundgarden and Kanye West were held back to early this morning.
The line-up itself - which also includes Kasabian, My Chemical Romance, Royksopp, Odd Future and Foster the People - was greeted with more positivity.
But fans are angry about the way in which it was made.
Band names were drip-fed every 15 minutes via social media sites Twitter and Facebook over two hours from 8-10pm Australian time, meaning New Zealand fans were forced to stay up to 1am to find out some of the smaller bands on the festival bill.
Fans took to the internet to voice their displeasure.
Tweeter @jouljet said: "#BDO2012 announcement over 2 hours, and it's only a partial! Boring music lovers to the point of distraction!"
And on Facebook, Alexander Watts said: "Hey BIG DAY OUT OFFICIAL. I know you're a big deal, and I'mma let you finish, but do you understand what the internet is for?"
"I stayed up this whole time in nz and you ain't even announcing the headliners," said Miro Sudzim on Facebook.
Tanya Kerr said: "dear @bdo_official ,stop making us refresh every 10 seconds and just release the rest of the bands. sincerely, new zealand."
Trenton Hoata seemed to hit the nail on the head when he said: "You'd win everyone over if you'd just release the line up all in one hit."
But Big Day Out fans seemed to be happier about the line-up.
"This @bdo_official line up is to die for, which I will proceed to do when I buy my tickets," said @BridieJune.
And Dominicpink said: "You had me at Soundgarden, @bdo_official. Now don't go doing anything silly, like scheduling them the same time as Kanye or Battles."
