Margot Robbie's bat-crazy Harley Quinn has landed her own Suicide Squad spin-off.
According to EW Online, Robbie launched the spin-off project after becoming obsessed with Marvel's female characters and has recruited a female writer to help develop the project.
Suicide Squad centres around a team of super-villains gathered to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.
Robbie plays Harley Quinn in the film, the bubbly and psychotic accomplice of the Joker who loves to wield a baseball bat.
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros are considering the movie which will be produced by Robbie herself.
While the finer details of the spin-off are yet to be ironed out, it has been revealed several of DCs female heroes and villains will feature, possibly including Batgirl and Birds of Prey.
Robbie rose to fame after starring as Naomi alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. She followed that performance with Focus in 2015 and in 2016 she stars as Jane in The Legend of Tarzan.
Suicide Squad is set to hit New Zealand cinemas on August 4.
