Auckland Theatre Company's latest production Filthy Business should probably come with a warning about filthy language. Set in London's East End, it's only fitting the play comes with its fair share of colourful language. It's also a highly entertaining and bittersweet tale of familial love and obligation. Former Shorty star Jennifer Ludlam is excellent as the formidable matriarch Yetta, leading an accomplished cast of Kiwi actors. On now until next Wednesday at the ASB Waterfront Theatre.

With the Northern Hemisphere basking in the lazy days of August heat, several of my go-to podcasts are on summer hiatus. The result is I've been casting my net a little more widely to discover some new (or rather new-to-me) gems. One of those is How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, which sees the British journalist speak to other successful Brits about their biggest failures. I'm also enjoying Love Stories with Dolly Alderton, which is not nearly as sweet and saccharine as the name suggests.
