Melbourne garage-punk band C***z have had a US show cancelled after their name was deemed offensive.
The band was set to play at the Victory Lounge in Seattle next Tuesday but was reportedly cancelled by the promoter after receiving complaints.
"It's not up to me to decide what is and isn't offensive to folks, but I do feel like it's my responsibility to listen to the voices of my friends, peers and fellow musicians who have been upset by me booking a band called C***z," C.J. Frederick from DASWASUP GIG said on the show's now-deleted Facebook event page, according to Stereogum.
"I decided to stand with my lady friends and feminist friends on this issue. Apologies to folks who have been hurt and/or offended by this show.
"This is NOT the kind of thing I want DASWASUP GIG to represent and I admit to having rolled the dice when I should have just said 'no thanks'."
Nicole Erin Yalaz, co-runner of the band's booking agency Strange Victory Touring, vented her frustration over the cancellation.
"The C***z show in Seattle has been cancelled because of their name. I'm so disgusted right now," Yalaz wrote on Facebook.
"So sick of these rich young college kids who think that trolling a show into being cancelled is making a difference in the world."
Fans of the band criticised DASWASUP GIG's decision to cancel pointing out the promoter's willingness to advertise other bands with names they believed to be worse.
"Ahh, the hypocrisy... Refuses to promote a punk band called C***Z (by far not the most offensive band name) thanks to feminist friends, but will gladly promote a band called CHILD ABUSE," Ryan Tracy wrote on Facebook.
"Just curious to know that from now on, will you be scanning the lyrics of songs from bands you will be looking to promote in the future as to ensure there is no offensive words??"
C***z is currently touring the US to promote the release of their third album Force The Zone.
