A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder over the death of a woman in Oratia overnight.
Authorities were called to the West Auckland suburb just after midnight in relation to the 59-year-old woman's death.
The man will appear in the Waitākere District Court this morning and police are not looking for anyone else.
A police guard remained at the scene late this afternoon, just after 4pm.
Two officers stood in front of the cordoned-off property on Carter Rd - a semi-rural area in West Auckland.
Just behind them, a blue tent had been put up on the grass near the road.
Neighbours devastated
Neighbours said the family's house was at the end of a long driveway further down.
A plain clothes officer was seen walking towards the back of a neighbouring property with a member of the forensics team, who was wearing a white jumpsuit.
A neighbour told the Herald she knew the family, but would not comment out of respect for them; only to say she was "just devastated'' at what had happened.
Another nearby resident said although they had been there for a number of years - the same as those at the cordoned-off house - the people there kept to themselves.
They had not heard anything during the night and only found out about the tragedy after seeing comments about it on Facebook this morning.
