Situation:

A ridge weakens over the North Island today, with a northwest flow over the lower South Island. A front moves onto the South Island today and over the North Island from late Wednesday into Thursday, followed by a narrow ridge. A low approaches the country from the west later Friday.

Forecast:

Tuesday: Northwest 15 knots, turning northerly 10 knots for a time in the afternoon. Easing to variable 5 knots late evening. Sea slight. High cloud increasing. Patchy rain developing this evening.

Outlook:

Outlook until midnight Friday: Wednesday: Southerly 15 knots, turning southeast 15 knots in the morning, easing to 10 knots in the evening. Rain. Thursday: Southeast 10 knots becoming northeast 10 knots later. Rain clearing afternoon but remaining cloudy. Friday: Northeast 15 knots becoming southeast 15 knots. Isolated showers, late rain.
