Area Description:

Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth.

Situation:

A ridge of high pressure dominates the North Island today, but a trough affects the far north. A northwest flow over the South Island strengthens as a trough moves north over the Island today and Sunday. The northwest flow spreads northwards on Monday as the ridge moves away, and an active trough approaches New Zealand from the west, moving over the country during Tuesday.

Saturday: Variable 5 knots. Becoming northeast 10 knots for a time in the afternoon. Sea slight. Areas of fog, clearing this morning, then fine.

Outlook:

Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Becoming northeast 10 knots in the morning, rising to 15 knots in the evening. Fine, high cloud. Monday: Northeast 15 knots. High cloud, a few spots of rain. Tuesday: Northeast 15 knots. Mainly fine with high cloud.
