Area Description:

Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth.

Situation:

A southwest flow affects the country, strong over the upper North Island this morning, and also behind an active cold front which moves north across the country today. Another front moves over the lower South Island early Sunday. The flow tips westerly over South Island from late Sunday and remains strong in the far south, but eases over the rest of the country as a ridge slowly extends east across the upper North Island.

Forecast:

Strong wind advisory. Saturday: Variable 5 knots. Southwest 30 knots gusting 40 knots developing around midday, easing to 20 knots in the afternoon and to 10 knots in the evening. Sea becoming rough for a time around midday. Poor visibility in rain around midday, easing to showers in the afternoon.

Outlook:

Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Tending northwest 15 knots in the morning. Becoming fine. Monday: Northwest 10 knots. Fine. Tuesday: Easing to variable 5 knots. Fine.
