Eleven years after closing the Auckland trading floor, the New Zealand Stock Exchange is likely to re-establish a presence in the country's commercial capital.
It will also look at a much bigger idea: shifting the entire exchange from Wellington to Auckland.
The exchange's marketing and communications manager, Melissa Jenner, said the exchange hoped to finalise plans soon for raising the exchange's visibility, especially in Auckland.
"Almost certainly" a physical presence in the city - possibly an office for key executives to use as a base - would be considered.
The exchange would also look at ideas for a focal point such as a giant trading screen, a shopfront, or a public information centre.
No decisions were likely until early next year.
"Any decision on whether to move the exchange itself to Auckland is likely to be further away."
Jenner said the exchange looked a few months ago at the idea of moving to Auckland, but shelved the topic because of more pressing concerns - such as the little matter of demutualisation, which goes to the vote next week.
She said the important thing was raising the exchange's profile, especially in Auckland.
