The Commerce Commission has extended its deadline to decide on clearance for two energy firms to buy some or all of the lines company UnitedNetworks.
The decisions on applications by Natural Gas Corp and Vector are expected to be announced on Friday.
UnitedNetworks is seeking buyers for some or all of its shares or assets because its majority shareholder, US networks company Aquila, needs cash to pay off debt.
The company said last month it had drawn up a shortlist of interested local and international companies.
A decision on the successful bidder is expected by the end of the month.
