Auckland game developer Binary Star makes its foray into the global $20 billion market with a preview of Homeland, its epic for computer gamers, this evening.
Thomas Reimann, Binary Star founder, said the company had developed new systems for Homeland, a game set in the 21st century where resourcesare under pressure as competition for oil polarises the planet.
Binary Star started work on the systems almost three years ago with a $75,000 grant from Technology New Zealand but since then almost $3 million of private cash has gone into the project. Reimann said the company had 25 staff who had made some of the coolest graphics as well as creating a strong storyline and powerful environment for gamers.
In the game a struggle for oil supremacy brings out two factions, the Democratic Alliance and the United Front. The hero is a female - Ella - and the future of the planet is in her hands.
Reimann said the company had a relationship with software giant Microsoft and is looking to sell between 500,000 and a million copies of its game.
