ABN Amro has been judged New Zealand's top broking house in a Euromoney magazine poll of institutional investors worldwide.
In its latest Asian Brokers' Survey for the year ending October, ABN Amro came from nowhere to be number one for both execution of deals and research.
In execution it polledahead of last year's winner, Salomon Smith Barney, which came in third-equal with Ord Minnett this time. JB Were and Son took the number two spot for the second year running.
In research, ABN Amro knocked JB Were off its perch, with Ord Minnett in third place.
The survey was conducted by polling institutional investors internationally, asking them to score their three preferred brokerage firms providing equity research and execution services in individual countries and industry sectors. There were 42 respondents.
Meanwhile, ABN Amro has appointed chief economist and strategist Rodney Dickens as head of research after the departure to Australia of John McMahon. Dennis Lee, a former forestry consultant and Merrill Lynch analyst, has been hired as a forestry analyst.
