Bay of Plenty's talent-laden sporting stocks will be celebrated next month at the Waiariki Institute of Technology 2010 Bay of Plenty Sports Awards.
Six open men have been picked, up from the usual four, as judges couldn't limit a quality field. Black Cap cricketer Kane Williamson, Tour de France stage runner-up Julian Dean, All Whites defender Tony Lochhead, double waka ama medallist George Thomas and world champions Sam Sutton (kayaking) and Dave Mohi (BMX) contest this category.
Nicola Leary (mountain biking), Maree McGarva (BMX), Gemma Flynn (hockey) and last year's supreme award winner Sarah Walker (BMX) head a strong female field.
Also presented on the night are the Bay of Plenty Secondary School Sports Awards.
For more information, see tomorrow's Bay of Plenty Times.
