The Coast Papamoa Beach New Zealand Longboard and SUP Open scheduled to take place this weekend has been postponed due to a poor outlook for surf.
This is the second national event in three weeks that has been rescheduled, with the average summer of swell on the northeast coast continuingto hamper events.
"We have been monitoring a storm system coming down from the tropics but, unfortunately it is going to arrive 24-36 hours too late for the event to take place at Papamoa Beach," said contest director Ben Kennings.
The event has now been rescheduled for April 11-12.
"Through until April we have a busy schedule of regional, national and international events, which has limited the options to hold the event any earlier," Kennings said.
The 2014 event, also held in April, scored some of the best waves Papamoa Beach has seen in the past decade, thanks to a cyclone situated off the East Coast. It is hoped that mother nature will deliver again for the new April timeslot.
