I find it hard to believe more than 1800 Western Bay motorists are caught not wearing seatbelts each year.
It is such a simple safety precaution it is mind boggling to think so many people don't do it.
It takes seconds to buckle up your seatbelt and becomes a habit you don't even think about - why wouldn't you do it?
Chances are you will get to your destination safely and won't need a seatbelt - but why take the risk?
Police say 100 of the people who died on our roads last year were unrestrained.
It makes you wonder how many of them could have survived, had they been wearing a seatbelt.
To me, it's not worth the risk - it's not something you want to find out the hard way.
As adults, we need to be setting a good example for the younger generations and encouraging the older generations, who weren't brought up with the habit, to do the same.
As our country grows and the roads get busier and busier, there becomes more chance you will be in a crash. Now, more than ever, we need to be wearing seatbelts, even if it is just a short trip down the road.
You might be a good driver but others on the road may not be - you never know who or what might come around the corner.
If you are in the habit of wearing a seatbelt, go one step further and make sure you remind friends and family to buckle up every time you get in a car with them.
Don't be silly - make it click.
