The Hits Bay of Plenty radio host Will Johnston on being selected a finalist in this year's radio awards.

Hits Bay of Plenty radio announcer Will Johnston is a finalist in the prestigious New Zealand Radio Awards and wants us all to have a beer with him to celebrate.

Johnston's daytime show which airs in the Bay between 9am and 3pm is finalist in the category of Best Music Non-Breakfast Solo Host - Single Market.

Johnston thanked his local audiences and said his nomination was evidence of the booming region "and how many cool things are happening here".

"The radio show I'm doing is literally nothing without the people who listen, participate and support it. So if you've listened, texted or called the show, advertised with us, won a prize, liked a Facebook post or turned up to an event that we've been at, then you are part of what makes this show fun and connected with the Bay. You should definitely have a drink to celebrate that we are a cool community that supports and actually cares about the people living in it."

NZME regional manager Bay of Plenty Greg Murphy said it was great to see local talent recognised on the national stage.

"Will works extremely hard to profile people, events and all things Tauranga on his show daily. This really shows with the dedicated audience that listen to Will daily," Murphy said.

NZME radio brands including Newstalk ZB, Radio Sport, ZM, The Hits and Radio Hauraki are nominated across a raft of prestigious awards.

The awards will be announced in Auckland at a ceremony on May 10.
