People flooded out the front of Legacy Funerals in Pyes Pa to say their final goodbyes to Tauranga's Cystic Sister Kristie Purton.
Mourners have dressed in purple and black - the favourite colours of Purton and a special request she made before she died at Waipuna Hospice last Thursday.
The 35-year-old was one half of Tauranga's "Cystic Sisters".
Purton and her younger sister Nikki Reynolds-Wilson, who were both born with cystic fibrosis, gained the hearts of the Tauranga community for their kind spirits and dedication to raising awareness of the disease.
The inherited disorder clogs the lungs and pancreas with thick, sticky mucus which can be helped through treatments but is ultimately incurable.
Purton had a lung transplant in 2017, but her body began rejecting the lungs in February and she was told she had no more medical options.
Her younger sister Nikki Reynolds-Wilson told the
Bay of Plenty Times
last Friday that Purton died with her mother and father and her sister by her side.
The sisters spent years raising awareness of the disorder, twice completing 65 days of good deeds in the community.
Purton was survived by her husband Craig and their three children Zack, 16, Curtis, 10, and Haylee, 8.
