Homes in Tauranga and Waihi escaped major damage after becoming subject of firefighter callouts overnight.
Greerton firefighters were called to a home in River Oaks Drive, Tauriko, at 9.40pm to reports of a bedroom on fire.
A fire communications spokesman said the fire was out on arrival and no one was injured.
In Waihi, firefighters responded to reports of a chimney fire at 8.17pm.

Sparks were seen coming from the chimney, the spokesman said.
Firefighters checked the home's ceiling cavity and established there was no danger, he said.
