Leader of the National Party and Tauranga MP Simon Bridges ticked off his "Bucket List Challenge" yesterday in support of Waipuna Hospice.
Sitting at the wheel of a big V8 trike, Bridges said: "I've always loved the sensation of power and getting behind something like this and going really freaking fast, so that's why this is on my bucket list."
He said he was also doing it for a "fantastic cause".
"And that's the Waipuna Hospice, who get some Government support but never enough…"
Waipuna Hospice cover the Western Bay of Plenty region and provide medical, nursing and support services to terminally ill patients and their families.
This year, to meet the shortfall in their operating costs, the hospice is running a fundraising campaign called the "Bucket List Challenge".
"It's great to be a part of that and help that good cause along while also doing something I've wanted to do for a while," Bridges said.
He said Waipuna Hospice help vulnerable people at the end of their lives and provide comfort to those in pain.
Bridges was joined on the V8 trike by Waipuna Hospice's chief executive Richard Thurlow (pictured left) and its director of fundraising and marketing Sasima Pearce.
